The HSE runs a great deal more than most people realise, and nearly all of it is free. The difficulty is rarely that a support does not exist. It is that nobody knows it is there.
This course walks through what HSE Health Promotion and Improvement offers across the North East, so that when someone mentions a worry in passing you know there is something you can point them to.
What is covered
- Training programmes you or your group can take part in.
- Minding Your Wellbeing, and the free online Balancing Stress programme.
- Healthy eating and nutrition programmes, from weaning through to adult cookery courses.
- Living Well, for people managing a long term health condition, and for those caring for them.
- The Stop Smoking Service, and what actually happens after a referral.
- Making Every Contact Count, for anyone working in health or social care.
- Everyday topics: alcohol, sleep, sexual health and sun safety.
- How to order free HSE leaflets and posters for your own group.
What you will take away
You will know what exists, roughly who qualifies, and where to send someone. Most of these services accept self referral, so often the most useful thing you can do is tell a person they are allowed to ring themselves.
Please note
This course is a signposting guide, not clinical advice. Anyone who is unwell, or who needs help urgently, should speak to their GP or the relevant service directly.
