Sometimes what a person needs is not a prescription. It is a reason to leave the house, a group to join, or somebody to help them work out where to start.
Social prescribing is a person centred approach that connects people with local, non clinical supports in their own community. A social prescriber sits down with someone, listens to what interests them, and helps them find their way to it.
Who this course is for
Anyone who wants to know what to suggest when they meet someone who is lonely, isolated, recovering, or simply looking to rebuild a bit of routine and confidence. No background in health or community work is needed.
What you will take away
- A clear, accurate way of explaining social prescribing to someone who has never heard of it.
- An understanding of who it suits, and who it does not.
- Confidence about the boundaries, so you can describe it honestly without overpromising.
- The contact details, and the two routes in: self referral, or referral through a GP.
Please note
The service described here covers the South West Meath area. If you are supporting someone outside that area, the ideas still apply, but the contact will be different.
